The best video doorbell for avoiding monthly fees

Dual cameras, on-device AI, local storage and HomeKit support for a one-time price.

Our verdict

After six weeks of daily use in a terraced Victorian home in Bristol, the Eufy S330 has comfortably earned its spot as our top-rated video doorbell for buyers who resent paying a monthly fee just to watch their own front door. The dual-camera trick is the headline feature, and it genuinely works: we could confirm DPD had left a parcel by the boot scraper and not on the step itself, which is the exact kind of thing a single-lens doorbell misses.

It is not perfect. The HomeBase 2 requirement means the true cost is closer to £230 than the £180 sticker price unless you already own a Eufy camera. And the wired install will put off anyone without existing doorbell wiring. But for the right buyer, this is the most complete package on the market right now.

Who should buy the Eufy S330?

This doorbell makes the most sense if you have existing wired doorbell wiring, hate the idea of a £3.49/month Ring Protect or Nest Aware subscription, and frequently receive parcels.

Renters without wiring should consider the battery-powered Eufy E340 or Ring Battery Doorbell Plus. Google Home users wanting Familiar Faces should look at the Nest Doorbell (Wired, 2nd gen).

Video quality and the dual-camera trick

The front camera is 2K with HDR — noticeably sharper than the 1080p Ring Battery Doorbell Plus we tested alongside it. Faces at 2 metres are recognisable, and HDR handles backlit doorsteps without blowing out skin tones.

The downward package cam is the sleeper feature. In our 41-parcel test it framed 39 deliveries correctly, missing only two placed outside the step footprint.

Smart features and the no-subscription question

The single biggest reason to buy is no monthly fee. Person, package and facial recognition all run on-device. Recordings save to the HomeBase 2 locally.

Five-year cost comparison: Eufy S330 + HomeBase 2 = £230 one-off vs Ring Battery Doorbell Plus + Ring Protect Basic = £359. That’s a meaningful saving over typical ownership.

Installation

Replacing an existing wired doorbell took us 22 minutes. The supplied template made drill placement easy, the chime wires push-fit.

If your existing transformer is an older 8V unit (common in UK pre-2000 houses), you’ll need an upgrade to 16-24V. An electrician will charge £80-120.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Eufy S330 need a subscription?

No. Person detection, package detection and event recording all work without monthly fees thanks to on-device AI and local storage on the HomeBase 2.

Is the Eufy S330 battery or wired?

The S330 is wired, connecting to your existing 16-24V doorbell transformer. For battery, look at the Eufy E340 Dual.

What is the second camera for?

The downward-facing camera captures parcels left on the doorstep while the front camera tracks visitors at head height.

Does it work with Apple HomeKit?

Yes, via the HomeBase 2. View the feed in Apple Home and trigger HomeKit automations.

What is the video quality like at night?

2K with HDR and Colour Night Vision when a porch light is nearby; clean black-and-white IR in pitch dark.

How easy is installation?

About 20 minutes if you have existing wiring. From scratch you’ll need a 16-24V transformer fitted by an electrician.
