The short answer
Prices checked at Argos and Lakeland on 23 October 2026.
- Cheapest per litre: Lakeland Pull Chopper 900ml, £11.99. No motor, no plug, £13.32 per litre of stated capacity. Lakeland's listing does not state a guarantee term.
- Best electric value: Cookworks CH1117BN, £15 at Argos. 0.5 litres of working capacity, so £30.00 a litre, with a 1-year guarantee.
- Longest cover for the money: Russell Hobbs Desire 27131, £30 at Argos. 3 years if registered online, so £10.00 per year of guarantee, the lowest of any electric chopper we priced.
- Skip: Kenwood CH180, £29. Its listing states a 0.35 litre container but only 0.15 litres of working capacity. That is £193.33 per usable litre, the worst in the pool.
- Electricity is irrelevant. A 500W chopper running for 30 seconds uses at most 0.0042kWh, or 0.11p at 26.32p/kWh.
Container size is not what it chops
Electric chopper listings at Argos give two figures: the container size and the working capacity. Of the 12 electric and cordless choppers we read, three state a working capacity smaller than the container:
| Chopper (Argos listing, 23 Oct 2026) | Container stated | Working capacity stated | Share usable |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kenwood CH180 | 0.35L | 0.15L | 43% |
| Russell Hobbs Go Create 27540 | 1.0L | 0.5L | 50% |
| Russell Hobbs Desire 27131 | 1.0L | 0.5L | 50% |
A fourth listing contradicts itself. The Tefal Choppeo XXL description says it has "a generous 2000ml shock-resistant glass bowl", while the specification lines on the same page say "1 litre container with 1 litre working capacity". At £50 that is either £25 or £50 a litre depending on which line is right. We have left it off the shortlist until Tefal or Argos corrects it.
This is the same working-capacity gap we found on food processors: the number that sells the product is not always the number that does the work.
How we picked and ranked these
We read every chopper on the first page of Argos's own range for "vegetable chopper" and the manual and electric choppers in Lakeland's range on 23 October 2026. Hand blenders sold with a chopper bowl were left out, as were colour variants of the same model (counted once). That gave 12 electric or cordless choppers at Argos and 7 manual and electric choppers at Lakeland.
The ranking metric is price divided by litres of stated working capacity. Where a listing gives only one capacity figure, we used it. Guarantee years are shown as written on the listing, and price per year of guarantee is shown where a term is stated.
We did not handle or use any of these choppers.

The Tefal Choppeo XXL (£50, Argos) is left out of the ranking because its listing gives two different capacities.
The six we would shortlist
1. Lakeland Pull Chopper 900ml: cheapest per litre
£11.99 at Lakeland on 23 October 2026. £13.32 per litre. Guarantee not stated on the listing.
You load it, pull the handle and the blades spin. Lakeland says it is dishwasher safe and has a non-slip silicone base. At 900ml it holds nearly twice what most £30 electric choppers can work with.
The catch: Lakeland's listing gives no guarantee term, so your protection is your statutory rights against the retailer. A pull chopper chops; it will not purée a smooth sauce the way a motor will.
Best for: onions and salsa for anyone who does not want another plug in use.
2. Cookworks CH1117BN: best electric value
£15.00 at Argos on 23 October 2026. £30.00 per usable litre. 1-year guarantee.
200W, a 0.5 litre working capacity that matches its container, one speed and a dishwasher-safe bottle with lid. It is the cheapest electric chopper in either retailer's range we read.
The catch: one speed and a 1-year guarantee. A £15 chopper with one year of cover is £15 a guaranteed year, more than the Russell Hobbs Desire.
Best for: occasional use, herbs and garlic.
3. Russell Hobbs Desire 27131: most cover per pound
£30.00 at Argos on 23 October 2026. £60.00 per usable litre. 3 years if registered online, so £10.00 per guaranteed year.
200W with a 500ml glass bowl and a storage lid. No other electric chopper we priced costs less per year of written cover.
The catch: the listing states a 1 litre container with 0.5 litres of working capacity, so do not buy it expecting a litre. The 3 years depends on registering online.
Best for: people who want a chopper to last and are happy to register it.
4. Cuisinart Pixie CCH32U: biggest working bowl with long cover
£40.00 at Argos on 23 October 2026. £57.14 per usable litre. 3-year guarantee (no registration condition stated).
250W, a 0.7 litre container with the full 0.7 litres stated as working capacity, an auto-reversing blade and a whipping disc. £13.33 per guaranteed year.
The catch: £10 more than the Russell Hobbs Desire for 0.2 litres more working space.
Best for: small households who make dips and whipped cream as well as chopping.
5. Ninja Express Chop NJ1002UKBK: best for prep ahead
£30.00 at Argos on 23 October 2026. £60.00 per usable litre. 2-year guarantee.
A 200W power pod on top of two 500ml cups, each with its own lid. You can chop into one cup, lid it for the fridge and use the second.
The catch: same cost per litre as the Russell Hobbs Desire with one year less cover.
Best for: batch preppers who want chopped onion or garlic ready in the fridge.
6. OXO Good Grips Vegetable Chopper: manual, with a lifetime guarantee
£24.99 at Lakeland on 23 October 2026. Capacity not stated on the listing. Lifetime manufacturer's guarantee.
A push-down dicer that Lakeland says is dishwasher safe. It is the only chopper in the pool sold with a lifetime guarantee.
The catch: Lakeland's listing does not give a capacity, so we cannot rank it per litre. "Lifetime" is not defined on the listing.
Best for: neat dice for soups and stews without electricity.
Live Amazon prices
The table below pulls live prices from Amazon's own feed, which can differ from the Amazon buy box and from the retailer prices we ranked on above. Not in it: the Lakeland Pull Chopper (sold by Lakeland) and the Russell Hobbs Desire 27131, which we could not match to an Amazon listing for the same model. The Cookworks CH1117BN shows no price because Amazon's feed returned none for it; follow its button for the current price.
Prices in this table come from Amazon and are refreshed at least once a day, with the date of the last update under the table. The cost-per-use and running-cost figures on this page use prices Look Into read on 23 October 2026, so they can differ from today's price.

Not worth buying at these prices
- Kenwood CH180, £29: 0.15 litres of working capacity in a 0.35 litre container, so £193.33 a litre with a 1-year guarantee. The Cookworks holds more than three times as much for about half the price.
- KitchenAid Go cordless 5KFCR531, £179: £151.69 a litre. The 12V battery is included and is shared across KitchenAid's Go range, but we could not find a replacement battery price, so the long-run cost is unknown.
Manual or electric: which should you buy?
| Question | Manual (pull or push) | Electric |
|---|---|---|
| Cheapest cost per litre we found | £13.32 (Lakeland Pull Chopper 900ml) | £29.16 (Lakeland Chopper With Glass Bowl) |
| Running cost | Nothing | At most 0.11p for 30 seconds at 500W |
| Purées and smooth sauces | No | Yes |
| Even dice | Push dicers, yes | No, electric blades chop irregularly |
| Longest guarantee we found | Lifetime (OXO) | 3 years (Cuisinart; Russell Hobbs if registered) |
Running cost working: 500W × 0.5 minutes ÷ 60 = 0.0042kWh × 26.32p (Ofgem cap, 1 October to 31 December 2026) = 0.11p. Even used daily, that is about 40p a year. The choice comes down to the texture you want, not the bill.
Choose manual if you mostly dice vegetables for soups and salads, or want something with no motor to fail.
Choose electric if you make pastes, pesto, hummus or baby food, or chop small amounts of garlic and herbs daily.
Choose a food processor instead if you regularly prepare more than about a litre at a time. See our food processor guide.
Questions people ask
What is the difference between a mini chopper and a food processor? On the listings we read, mini choppers state 0.15 to 1.18 litres of working capacity and have no slicing or grating discs. Food processors in our pool state 0.75 to 3 litres and include at least one disc.
Are pull choppers safe? The blades sit inside a closed bowl, which keeps fingers away while chopping. Take care when lifting the blade unit out for cleaning.
Can I put a chopper in the dishwasher? Most listings we read say the bowl and blades are dishwasher safe. Lakeland recommends hand washing the blade of its glass-bowl electric chopper.
Does the guarantee replace my legal rights? No. Your Consumer Rights Act rights are against the retailer, and a maker's guarantee is extra.
