The short answer. Of ten best-selling dumbbell listings on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026, the ZENO 15kg adjustable set gives the most weight for the money, at about 98p a kilo. The cheapest fixed pair per kilo was the NORTHERN 2 x 7kg rubber hex, at £1.65.
The dearest way to buy weight is a light pair. A 2 x 1kg pair cost £4.25 a kilo. Check whether a listing's weight is per dumbbell or per pair: the number one seller's own fields disagree.
Dumbbells are selling strongly on Amazon UK this week, and two of them made the top 30 of the whole Sports and Outdoors department on 30 October. They are sold by weight, but in pairs, singles and sets, with different coatings. So we put them on one scale: what a kilo of weight costs.

What the listings tell you, and what they don't
"5kg" can mean each or in total. The Amazon Basics pair, number one on the chart, says in its bullets that each dumbbell weighs 5kg. Its own item weight field says 4.54kg, which is exactly 10lb. One of those figures is wrong, and they lead to very different costs: £1.68 a kilo on the bullets, £3.70 on the weight field. PhysKcal's hex listing goes further. It sells 5kg, 7.5kg and 10kg as pairs, and 12.5kg to 30kg as single dumbbells, all under one title.
The cheapest kilos are filled plates. All three adjustable sets came in under £1.30 a kilo. Every fixed pair cost more. The trade is bulk: two of the three adjustable sets list plastic or cement as the plate material, and filled plates are larger than iron for the same weight.
Light pairs cost the most per kilo. Outside the ten, Core Balance's 2 x 1kg neoprene bone pair came to £6.00 a kilo, about six times the ZENO set. In the ten, the 2 x 1kg Core Balance pair cost £4.25. If you are buying light weights, a rack set of three pairs works out cheaper per kilo than buying the pairs one at a time.
Weight fields don't always match the product. Besides the Amazon Basics pair, Core Balance's 2 x 1kg pair lists 1kg as its item weight. Read the bullets and the option you have selected, not the weight field.
The ten, ranked by cost per kilo
1. ZENO Adjustable Dumbbells Set, 15kg
£0.98 per kilo · 15kg set with barbell
The cheapest kilo on the list by some distance. The set includes four 2kg and four 1.5kg plates and a barbell, so one purchase covers both dumbbell and barbell work.
The catch: The listing gives plastic as the material. Filled plastic plates are bulkier than iron plates of the same weight, so a full bar is long and the set tops out low.
Best for: beginners who want the most weight for the least money.

Check price on Amazon →2. Yaheetech Adjustable Dumbbells Weight Set, 30kg
£1.23 per kilo · 30kg set
The heaviest set on the list and the second-cheapest per kilo. The listing describes 16 plates in four sizes.
The catch: The listing says the plates are cement in a plastic shell, so they are bulky and not as hard-wearing as iron.
Best for: anyone who wants room to progress without buying again.
Evidence: Listing read on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026. Chart position 7 in Dumbbells. Price: check the live price on Amazon.
Check price on Amazon →3. Straame 20KG Adjustable Dumbbell and Barbell Set
£1.25 per kilo · 20kg set
Close to the Yaheetech on cost per kilo, with smaller plate steps of 1.25kg, 1.5kg and 2kg. That makes small increases in weight easier.
The catch: It costs about a quarter more per kilo than the ZENO, and 20kg shared across two handles is light for leg work.
Best for: steady progression in small steps.

Check price on Amazon →4. NORTHERN Hex Dumbbell Set, 2 x 7kg
£1.65 per kilo · 2 x 7kg pair
The cheapest fixed-weight hex pair we priced. Rubber-coated heads, metal handles, and the listing states clearly that sizes are sold in pairs.
The catch: You need a separate pair for every weight you want, so a range of fixed pairs soon costs more than an adjustable set.
Best for: a single working weight you will use every session.
Evidence: Listing read on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026, 7kg x2 option. Chart position 11 in Dumbbells. Price: check the live price on Amazon.
Check price on Amazon →5. Amazon Basics Neoprene Dumbbell Pair, 5kg
£1.68 per kilo · 2 x 5kg pair, as the bullets state
The number one dumbbell on Amazon UK on 30 October. Its bullets say each dumbbell weighs 5kg, which makes it good value for a coated pair.
The catch: The listing's own item weight field reads 4.54kg, which is exactly 10lb. If that field is right and the pair weighs 4.54kg in total, the cost is £3.70 per kilo, not £1.68. Check which you are getting before you buy.
Best for: a light coated pair, once you've confirmed the weight.
Evidence: Listing read on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026, 5 kilograms option. Number 1 in Dumbbells. Price: check the live price on Amazon.
Check price on Amazon →6. TANNESS Dumbbells Set with Rack, 12kg
£1.92 per kilo · 1kg, 2kg and 3kg pairs, 12kg in total
The cheapest of the three rack sets we priced. You get three cast-iron pairs and a stand.
The catch: The heaviest pair is 3kg, so most adults will outgrow it for anything except shoulder and arm work.
Best for: toning and rehab work at light weights.

Check price on Amazon →7. SONGMICS Hex Dumbbells with Neoprene Coating, 2 x 5kg
£2.30 per kilo · 2 x 5kg pair
A coated hex pair that won't roll, and the listing makes clear it is a pair of 5kg weights.
The catch: It costs more than a third more per kilo than the NORTHERN rubber hex pair.
Best for: a coated hex pair in a 5kg weight.
Evidence: Listing read on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026. Chart position 2 in Dumbbells. Price: check the live price on Amazon.
Check price on Amazon →8. SONGMICS 3 Pairs Dumbbells Set with Stand, 12kg
£2.50 per kilo · 1kg, 2kg and 3kg pairs, 12kg in total
The same three pairs as the TANNESS set, with a stand.
The catch: It costs about 30% more per kilo than the TANNESS set for the same weights.
Best for: buyers who prefer this stand design.
Evidence: Listing read on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026, 12kg option. Chart position 4 in Dumbbells. Price: check the live price on Amazon.
Check price on Amazon →9. PhysKcal Dumbbells Set with Storage Rack, 9kg
£3.17 per kilo · 1kg, 1.5kg and 2kg pairs, 9kg in total
Three neoprene pairs on a rotating rack, with half-kilo steps at the light end.
The catch: The dearest set per kilo here. You are paying for the rack and the small steps.
Best for: light work where small steps matter.
Evidence: Listing read on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026, 9kg option. Chart position 17 in Dumbbells. Price: check the live price on Amazon.
Check price on Amazon →10. Core Balance Hex Dumbbells, 2 x 1kg
£4.25 per kilo · 2 x 1kg pair
A single light pair from a set range that goes up to 10kg pairs. Useful as a first pair.
The catch: Light pairs are the dearest way to buy weight. This one costs more than four times as much per kilo as the ZENO. The item weight field also says 1kg for a pair of 1kg dumbbells.
Best for: a first light pair, or someone who only needs 1kg.
Evidence: Listing read on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026, 2 x 1kg option. Chart position 12 in Dumbbells. Price: check the live price on Amazon.

The table below pulls the current price from Amazon for the default option of each listing, which may not be the weight we priced. It can also differ from the price you see at checkout. The ZENO and TANNESS sets are missing because Amazon's product feed did not return those listings.

How we worked out the cost
Cost per kilo = price ÷ total weight the price buys. For a pair, that is both dumbbells together. For a set, it is every weight in the set. Weights come from each listing's title, bullets and selected option. Prices were read from the buy box on 30 October 2026 for the option shown in each card. For the Amazon Basics pair we used the 10kg in its bullets and gave the alternative.
We read nineteen listings in all. Five showed no default weight option, so their price couldn't be tied to a weight, and two didn't make clear whether their weight was per dumbbell or per pair. The other two left out, Core Balance's bone pair and PhysKcal's hex listing, are quoted above as examples.
What to check before you buy
- Per dumbbell or per pair. Read the bullets and the selected option, and work out the total weight you're paying for.
- Adjustable or fixed. Adjustable sets are cheapest per kilo. Fixed pairs are quicker to swap mid-workout.
- Plate material. Cement or sand-filled plastic is cheap but bulky. Cast iron and rubber hex last longer and take up less space.
- Room to progress. A 1kg to 3kg rack set is fine for arm work, but most adults will want more for squats and rows.
The verdict
For the most weight for the money, buy an adjustable set. The ZENO 15kg set was cheapest per kilo on the day we checked, and the Yaheetech 30kg set gives the most room to progress. For one working weight, a rubber hex pair like the NORTHERN 2 x 7kg is the best-value fixed option. Avoid buying light pairs one at a time unless you only need one weight.
How Look Into made this guide
Desk research, not a hands-on test. Look Into has not lifted these dumbbells. We read the Amazon UK Dumbbells best-seller chart on 30 October 2026, opened nineteen listings from its top 30, and recorded the weight, option and buy-box price of each. The ranking is cost per kilo, worked from those figures.
Frequently asked questions
What are the cheapest dumbbells per kilo in the UK?
Of the ten dumbbell listings we priced on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026, the ZENO 15kg adjustable set cost the least per kilo, at about 98p. Adjustable sets with filled plastic or cement plates were the cheapest per kilo overall.
Is a 5kg dumbbell pair 5kg each or 5kg in total?
It depends on the listing, so read it closely. Amazon Basics says each of its pair weighs 5kg, but its own item weight field reads 4.54kg. PhysKcal's hex listing sells 5kg to 10kg in pairs and 12.5kg upwards as singles, under one title.
Are adjustable dumbbells better value than fixed pairs?
Per kilo, yes. The three adjustable sets here cost 98p to £1.25 per kilo. Fixed pairs cost £1.65 to £4.25. Fixed pairs are quicker to pick up and more compact for the same weight.
Why are light dumbbells so expensive?
The handle, the coating and the packaging cost about the same whatever the weight, so a light pair spreads them over fewer kilos. A 1kg pair cost £4.25 per kilo here, more than four times the cheapest set.
