The short answer. Of the ten best-selling tealight packs on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026, Olympia's 8-Hour 75-pack gives the cheapest claimed burning hour, at 1.20p. Price's white 50-pack is the cheapest per light, at 8.0p, which is what matters if you light each one only briefly.

8-hour tealights cost about a third more per light than 4-hour ones but claim twice the burn time, so they are the better buy for long evenings. All ten burn times are the sellers' claims. None of the listings says how they were measured.

Tealights are the best-selling candles on Amazon UK this week. Price's white 50-pack was number one in all of Home and Kitchen on 30 October, and eleven tealight packs sat in the top 30 of the Candles chart. Packs are sold by count, but what you're really paying for is hours of light. So we ranked them by what each claimed hour costs.

Look Into earns from qualifying purchases through the Amazon links on this page. That never changes the order. The ranking is pure arithmetic on the price read on 30 October 2026.

What the ten listings tell you, and what they don't

All ten give a burn time, and none says how it was measured. We read the title and bullets of every listing. Each gives a figure, usually "8 hour" or "up to 4 hours". None mentions a test, a test standard or the conditions behind the number. The only listing that explains its claim at all is Zuvo's, which says a deeper cup holds more wax.

The weight field can't check the claim either. More wax should mean a longer burn, so the item weight would be a useful check. But the weight fields on these listings make no sense side by side. SHOPNIX lists 7.5 g for 100 lights and Price's Sentinel lists 100 g for 100, while Olympia lists 1.52 kg for 75. One delka listing gives the number of items as 1 for a pack of 50. You can't use these fields to compare packs.

Doubling the claimed hours doesn't double the price. The six 8-hour packs averaged 13.4p per light. The three 4-hour packs we read averaged 10.0p. So you pay about a third more for twice the claimed burn, which is why every 8-hour pack beats every 4-hour pack on cost per hour. delka sells both versions in 50-packs, and its 8-hour light costs 2.00p per claimed hour against 2.50p for its 4-hour light.

The best seller is a short burner. Price's white 50-pack has the lowest cost per light here, but at up to 4.5 hours it comes fourth on cost per hour. For short uses that's fine. For a whole evening, a long-burn pack is cheaper.

The ten, ranked by cost per claimed hour

1. Olympia 8-Hour Tealights, pack of 75

1.20p per claimed hour · 9.6p per light · claimed burn 8 hours

The cheapest claimed burning hour of the ten, by a clear margin. It is also the cheapest per light of the six 8-hour packs, so it wins on both measures among the long-burn lights.

The catch: The title and bullets say nothing about the wax or the cup. All you get is the 8-hour claim and a standard size.

Best for: anyone who burns tealights most evenings and wants the lowest running cost.

Evidence: Listing title, bullets and details read on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026. Chart position 16 in Candles that day. Price: check the live price on Amazon.

2. SHOPNIX 8 Hour Tealights, pack of 100

1.50p per claimed hour · 12.0p per light · claimed burn 8 hours

A 100-pack of 8-hour lights at the second-lowest cost per claimed hour. The listing says the wicks are cotton.

The catch: The listing's item weight field reads 7.5 g for a pack of 100, which can't be right. The field is no use for checking how much wax you're buying.

Best for: bulk buyers who want the 8-hour format for less than the big-name packs.

Evidence: Listing read on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026. Chart position 25 in Candles. Price: check the live price on Amazon.

3. Price's Candles Sentinel 8 Hour Tealights, pack of 100

1.55p per claimed hour · 12.4p per light · claimed burn 8 hours

Price's long-burn range costs only a twentieth of a penny more per claimed hour than the SHOPNIX pack. It is the best-selling 8-hour pack on the chart.

The catch: Like SHOPNIX, the item weight field doesn't fit the product: it lists 100 g for 100 candles.

Best for: a known brand at close to the lowest running cost.

Evidence: Listing read on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026. Chart position 4 in Candles. Price: check the live price on Amazon.

4. Price's Candles White Tealights, pack of 50

1.78p per claimed hour · 8.0p per light · claimed burn up to 4.5 hours

The number one seller in all of Home and Kitchen on 30 October, and the cheapest tealight per light on this list. If you light each one for an hour or two and then throw it away, cost per light matters more than cost per hour, and this pack wins.

The catch: It is a short burner, so it drops to fourth on cost per hour. A 4.5-hour light won't see out a long evening.

Best for: short bursts, table settings and lanterns that are lit for an hour or two.

Evidence: Listing read on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026. Number 1 in Home and Kitchen and in Candles. Price: check the live price on Amazon.

5. Zuvo Tea Lights 8 Hour Burn, pack of 50

1.82p per claimed hour · 14.6p per light · claimed burn 8 hours

The only listing that explains its burn claim at all. It says a deeper cup holds more wax, and that the wick has no metal core.

The catch: It costs more per hour than the Price's long-burn pack, and the explanation is still the seller's own, not a test.

Best for: buyers who want a wick with no metal core.

Evidence: Listing read on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026. Chart position 8 in Candles. Price: check the live price on Amazon.

6. Avlash 8 Hour Tea Light Candles, pack of 50

1.97p per claimed hour · 15.8p per light · claimed burn up to 8 hours

A shrink-wrapped 50-pack in aluminium cups. The listing notes that the empty cups can be recycled with other aluminium.

The catch: It costs about two-thirds more per claimed hour than the Olympia pack, for the same 8-hour claim.

Best for: anyone who wants to recycle the cups.

Evidence: Listing read on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026. Chart position 5 in Candles. Price: check the live price on Amazon.

7. delka Unscented Tea Light Candles 8-Hour, pack of 50

2.00p per claimed hour · 16.0p per light · claimed burn up to 8 hours

Worth reading next to delka's own 4-hour pack at number 9. Same brand, same pack size, double the claimed hours, and 60% more per light. So the 8-hour version is the cheaper way to buy light from this brand.

The catch: The details panel lists the number of items as 1, for a pack sold as 50.

Best for: delka buyers deciding between the two burn times.

Evidence: Listing read on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026. Chart position 6 in Candles. Price: check the live price on Amazon.

8. LIVEN 4 Hour Tea Lights, pack of 100

2.25p per claimed hour · 9.0p per light · claimed burn 4 hours

The only listing of the ten that names its wax, paraffin. It is also the second-cheapest per light after the Price's white pack.

The catch: A 4-hour light, so it ranks low on cost per hour.

Best for: events where every light is used once and thrown away.

Evidence: Listing read on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026. Chart position 18 in Candles. Price: check the live price on Amazon.

9. delka Unscented Tea Lights 4 Hour, pack of 50

2.50p per claimed hour · 10.0p per light · claimed burn up to 4 hours

Cheaper per light than delka's 8-hour pack, but a quarter dearer per claimed hour.

The catch: If you burn tealights for whole evenings, the 8-hour version at number 7 gives you more light for the money.

Best for: short burns where you won't relight.

Evidence: Listing read on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026. Chart position 11 in Candles. Price: check the live price on Amazon.

10. Price's Candles Maxi Tealights, pack of 12

3.17p per claimed hour · 31.7p per light · claimed burn up to 10 hours

The longest claimed burn here, and the second-best seller in Candles. A maxi light is larger than a standard tealight, so it suits a lantern you don't want to refill mid-evening.

The catch: The most expensive claimed hour of the ten, at well over twice the Olympia pack. It needs a holder made for maxi lights.

Best for: lanterns and larger holders that take maxi lights.

Evidence: Listing read on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026. Chart position 2 in Candles. Price: check the live price on Amazon.

How we worked out the cost

Cost per claimed hour = pack price ÷ (number of lights × claimed hours per light). For Olympia's 75-pack that is the price read on 30 October divided by 600 claimed hours, which gives 1.20p. Cost per light is the pack price divided by the number of lights. Where a listing says "up to", we used the figure as stated, so every result is a best case.

Pack sizes and burn times come from each listing's title and bullets. Prices were read from the buy box on 30 October 2026. The eleventh pack was left out. Globrite's 4-hour 50-pack (chart position 12) came to 2.75p per claimed hour, below everything here except the Price's Maxi, which we kept because it is the number two seller.

What to check before you buy

  • How long you burn them. For whole evenings, compare cost per hour. For an hour at a time, compare cost per light.
  • The holder. The standard tealights here are listed at about 38 mm across. A maxi light needs a bigger holder.
  • A heat-resistant surface. The metal cup gets hot. Use a holder, and keep tealights away from anything that can burn.
  • Never leave one burning unattended. That is one of the warnings BS EN 15494 says candle packs should carry.

The verdict

For long evenings, buy an 8-hour pack, and Olympia's 75-pack had the cheapest claimed hour on the day we checked. For short bursts, Price's white 50-pack is the cheapest per light. Skip the maxi lights unless your lantern needs them. They cost more than twice as much per claimed hour.

If you want scented candles instead, our autumn candles guide ranks them by cost per burning hour too. Our candle warmer lamps guide covers a flameless option.

How Look Into made this guide

Desk research, not a hands-on test. Look Into has not burned these tealights. We read the Amazon UK Candles best-seller chart on 30 October 2026, opened all eleven tealight listings in its top 30, and recorded each pack size, claimed burn time and buy-box price. The ranking is cost per claimed hour, worked from those figures.

Frequently asked questions

What are the cheapest tealights to run in the UK?

Of the ten best-selling tealight packs on Amazon UK on 30 October 2026, the Olympia 8-Hour 75-pack cost the least per claimed burning hour, at 1.20p. The Price's white 50-pack cost the least per light, at 8.0p.

Are 8-hour tealights worth it?

Usually, if you burn them for whole evenings. Across these packs an 8-hour light cost about a third more than a 4-hour light but claims twice the burn time, so it works out cheaper per hour. If you only burn each light briefly, a cheap 4-hour pack costs less.

How long does a tealight really burn?

Every listing we read gave a burn time, but none said how it was measured. Draughts, the holder and wick trimming all change it. Treat the figures as claims, not tested results.

What safety standard covers candles?

BS EN 15494 sets the safety labels candles should carry, such as never leaving a burning candle unattended. None of the ten Amazon listings mentioned it in the title or bullets, though the label may still be on the pack itself.
