The short version

  • The lightest stated lift is the Ultra-Light EM985S Litefold, at 16kg without its battery and £795.00 on 15 October 2026.
  • The iCAN X-15 is the best value under 20kg: an 18kg frame plus a battery the listing puts at about 1kg, for £649.99.
  • The iCAN EasyFold X-12 folds itself and weighs 22kg with the battery in, for £699.99.
  • In our audit, 6 of the first 20 Amazon UK folding scooter listings state a top speed above the 4mph Class 2 limit, and none of the 20 prints its battery in watt-hours.
  • The price is only part of the bill: see what a scooter costs to own over five years.

Prices in this table come live from Amazon and can change through the day. Prices quoted in the text were checked by Look Into on 15 October 2026, so the two can differ.

Most "lightest folding scooter" lists quote the whole scooter's weight. At a car boot, the number that matters is the heaviest single piece you have to lift. On most folding scooters that is the frame once the battery is out. So this guide ranks six folding scooters by the weight their listings state, and says plainly whether that figure includes the battery.

We also read the first 20 unsponsored Amazon UK results for "folding mobility scooter" on 15 October 2026, because the listings say some things a buyer should know before paying.

How we picked these

This is desk research. We have not ridden, folded or weighed any of these scooters. Every weight, speed, range and battery figure below is what the seller's own Amazon UK listing states, read on 15 October 2026. Prices are the Amazon buy-box price on that date.

To make the list, a scooter had to fold, state a top speed of 4mph or less somewhere on its listing (the Class 2 pavement limit set by GOV.UK), and state a weight. We then sorted by that weight. Where a listing contradicts itself, we say so in the card and give both numbers.

For range, we show the claim and a realistic band 20 to 30 percent lower. That discount is our stated working assumption for UK hills, kerbs, cold mornings and older batteries. It is not a measured result.

The six worth looking at

Lightest stated lift

Ultra-Light EM985S Litefold

The listing gives 16kg for the scooter without its battery, the lowest frame figure we found, and it is the only one of our six that prints its battery in watt-hours: a 24V 10.4Ah lithium pack rated 249.6Wh. That matters if you plan to fly, because airlines work in watt-hours. It states a 110kg user limit and about 10 miles a charge. At £795.00 it is the second dearest here.

The catch: the listing contradicts itself on speed. Its specification table says 4mph, but its bullet points say "Forward: 8km/h", which is about 5mph and above the Class 2 limit. Ask the seller which is true before you buy.

Best value under 20kg

iCAN X-15

An 18kg frame with the battery out, and the listing says the battery weighs about 1kg, so you never lift more than the frame. It states 4mph and uses the words "Class 2", which is what you want on a pavement. The claimed range is 15 miles. At £649.99 it is the cheapest scooter on this list.

The catch: it says 24V lithium but gives no amp-hours, so you cannot work out its watt-hours from the listing. If you want to fly with it, you will need that figure from the seller first.

Longest stated range in the light group

FreeWink folding scooter

18.5kg without its batteries, two 24V 10Ah lithium batteries that the listing says weigh 2kg, and a claimed 38km (23.6 miles). Speed is adjustable from 1 to 6km/h, so it stays under 4mph. It states a 130kg user limit, the highest of the light four.

The catch: it calls itself "Airport Approved" and its batteries "flight-approved". Two removable 240Wh batteries are above the 160Wh-each limit that British Airways and Jet2 set for two-battery devices. Read our airline battery check before booking a flight.

Lightest with the battery in

YL-985S Ultra-Light

19.7kg with the battery fitted, so the figure on the listing is the most you will lift. It states 4mph and a quick-release 10Ah lithium battery.

The catch: the user limit is 100kg (15st), the lowest here, and the listing gives two ranges: 12 miles in the title and 15 miles in the description. It does not state the battery voltage, so its watt-hours cannot be worked out.

Easiest to fold

iCAN EasyFold X-12

An automatic fold, 22kg with the battery included, a stated 3.75mph top speed and a 120kg user limit. The listing says it is compliant with UK Class 2 rules.

The catch: the claimed range is the shortest here at 9.3 miles, which our discount turns into roughly 6.5 to 7.4 miles. Fine for a supermarket run, short for a day out.

Longest range, if you can lift it

T-Sport automatic folding scooter

Automatic folding, 4mph, and two 10Ah batteries that the listing says give 20 to 25 miles between them. That is the longest claim of the six.

The catch: it is the dearest at £979.89, and its weight depends on where you read: 22kg in the bullet points, 25kg in the specification table. Assume 25kg until the seller says otherwise.

What 20 folding scooter listings actually say

We read the first 20 unsponsored Amazon UK results for "folding mobility scooter" on 15 October 2026, scoped to each listing's own title, bullets, description and specification table.

  • 6 of 20 state a top speed above 4mph, between 7km/h and 7mph. GOV.UK sets Class 2 at 4mph or less. Anything faster is Class 3, which needs lights, indicators and DVLA registration.
  • 3 of 20 state no top speed at all.
  • 0 of 20 print the battery in watt-hours. 13 give amp-hours and 12 give a voltage, so you can sometimes work it out.
  • 5 of 20 use the words "Class 2" or "Class 3".
  • 5 of 20 separate the frame weight from the battery weight.
  • 18 of 20 state a range, and none says how it was measured.

The speed finding is the one to act on. A scooter sold for pavements that can do 5mph or 7mph is not a Class 2 scooter, whatever the photos suggest. Check the stated speed before you check the price.

Before you buy

  • Measure your boot opening and floor depth, then compare it with the folded size on the listing.
  • Ask for the frame weight without the battery if the listing gives only one figure.
  • If you are eligible for VAT relief, ask the seller first. None of these six listings mentions it.
  • Budget for a replacement battery and insurance. Our five-year cost page prices both.
  • Not sure you will use it? Hiring one first is cheap insurance against a wrong choice.

Questions people ask

What is the lightest folding mobility scooter in the UK?

Of the six we priced on Amazon UK on 15 October 2026, the Ultra-Light EM985S Litefold states the lowest figure: 16kg without its battery. The iCAN X-15 states 18kg without its battery and says the battery weighs about 1kg. Several popular listings print no weight at all, so treat any "lightest" claim as a claim about the scooters that publish one.

What is the heaviest piece I will have to lift?

On a scooter that splits into frame and battery, the frame is the heaviest piece. Four of our six publish a frame-only or with-battery weight between 16kg and 22kg. Only the frame-only figures tell you the actual lift; a with-battery figure is the most you could be lifting if the battery stays in.

Can a folding mobility scooter go faster than 4mph?

Not legally on a pavement as a Class 2 scooter. GOV.UK puts Class 2 at a maximum of 4mph. In our audit of 20 Amazon UK folding scooter listings, 6 stated a top speed above 4mph, which would make them Class 3 vehicles needing lights, indicators and DVLA registration.

Can I buy a folding scooter VAT free?

GOV.UK says Class 2 scooters, designed not to exceed 4mph, can be bought VAT free by people who are chronically sick or disabled, using an eligibility declaration with the supplier. Age alone does not qualify. None of the six listings here mentions VAT relief in its own text, so ask the seller before you buy.

How far will a folding scooter really go?

Take 20 to 30 percent off the advertised range as a starting point. That figure is our working assumption. Hills, cold weather, rider weight and battery age can all push it lower. A 15-mile claim becomes roughly 10.5 to 12 miles.
