The short answer

In the seven days to 22 October 2026, the fastest rising UK product searches we track were moisture absorber at +35.4%, window vacuum at +30.5% and electric blanket at +29.6%. The steepest fall was carbon monoxide alarm at -3.3%. Figures are Google Trends UK search interest against the previous seven days.

Ranked by seven day change in UK search interest. Each term is measured on its own, so a figure in this table describes that term against its own previous week, not against the other terms.

The damp turn, 2026

Put tower fan, dehumidifier and heated airer into one Google Trends query for Great Britain and you get all three on the same scale. Re-run on 23 October 2026 over the previous twelve months, the last week fans led dehumidifiers was the week of 9 August 2026, at 18 against 13. Dehumidifiers led the next week at 14 against 7 and have stayed ahead since: 24 against 3 in the week of 13 September, and 34 against 2 in the week of 11 October, the widest gap since the turn. Heated airer went from 1 to 8 on the same scale over the same period.

We call that switch the damp turn: the week UK search demand stops being about moving air and starts being about removing water. In 2026 it landed in the week of 16 August.

The catch is that these are small numbers on a shared scale, so any single week could flip on noise. The gap has not widened in a straight line either, and narrowed to 18 against 2 in the week of 20 September before opening again. What makes it a turn rather than a wobble is that dehumidifier has stayed ahead for nine full weeks running, even in a week like the one to 22 October when tower fan rose faster on its own scale.

How this index is measured

  • Source: Google Trends, Great Britain, daily series. Nothing here is a sales figure and nothing here comes from a retailer.
  • Window: the seven days 16 October 2026 to 22 October 2026, against the seven days 9 October 2026 to 15 October 2026. Both weeks come out of one fourteen day request per term, so the two means sit on the same scale.
  • Change: the mean of the second seven days against the mean of the first seven days, to one decimal place.
  • Google Trends reports relative search interest on a 0 to 100 index, not a count of searches. A term is only ever compared with itself unless we say otherwise.
  • Trends resamples its data, so re-running a query can return a figure a point or two out. Every row links to the exact query, so you can re-run it and see for yourself.
  • Terms are the plain words UK shoppers use, one per guide. Cost indexes and claims audits that do not map to a single product term are left out rather than forced in.
  • Updated weekly on a Friday, measured to the last complete day. Editions are never overwritten. Each week keeps its own page.
