"Ergonomic" is the cheapest word in furniture. We read the top twenty Amazon UK results for office chairs on 16 October 2026 — titles and feature bullets — and seventeen of the twenty sell themselves as ergonomic, while only nine can point at any standard or certification at all (EN 1335, BIFMA, SGS or TÜV), only eight state a maximum user weight, and only eight put a warranty in writing. One of the twenty "office chairs" is actually a stretch cover for one.
A chair is a thing you sit in for 1,500 hours a year, usually bought from a photo. The photo cannot tell you whether the gas lift was tested or how long the maker will stand behind the mesh — but the listing can, when it chooses to. So this guide ranks on what is written down: the stated weight rating, the named standard, and the warranty — priced, as ever, per year of it.
The short answer
- Best value by the printed numbers: amseatec mesh chair (£75.99) — a BIFMA mention and a 5-year warranty in its bullets works out at £15.20 per stated year, the best on the page.
- The chart staple: SIHOO M18 (£139.99) — 136kg stated, BIFMA cited, 3-year warranty.
- The office-chair standard by name: ProtoArc EC200 (£142.49) — one of the few to cite EN 1335, with 5 years.
- Highest stated weight rating: SEATCO S1 (£149.99, 150kg, 5 years).
- Budget that still shows its numbers: naspaluro (£65.99) — 102kg and an SGS line at a price where most rivals state nothing.
Prices are the Amazon buy box on 16 October 2026 and will move. No lab, no test rig, no sat-in-it claims: every figure comes from the maker, the listing or a named source, read on the date shown.

The ergonomic tax: what twenty listings actually state
Titles and feature bullets, top twenty Amazon UK office chair results, 16 October 2026:
- 17 of 20 claim "ergonomic". 9 of 20 name any standard or certification. The word is free; EN 1335 (the European office-chair standard), BIFMA and an SGS or TÜV line each cost a test. The eight listings using the word with nothing behind it are charging for a syllable.
- Only 8 of 20 state a maximum user weight — the single number that decides whether the gas lift under you is working inside or outside its design load. The stated figures run from 102kg to 150kg; the other twelve leave you to guess.
- Only 8 of 20 state a warranty. Priced per stated year, the spread is wide: £15.20 (amseatec, 5 years at £75.99) to £47.60 (ELABEST, 5 years at £237.99). Twelve chairs commit to nothing in writing, so their price per year of commitment is unknowable — the same silence we found on stand mixers.
- 5 of 20 claim "24-hour" use with no stated standard behind the figure; BS 5459-2, the UK standard written for exactly that claim, appears on none of the twenty.
- The top twenty for "office chair" also contains a £20.99 chair cover, which says something about how this aisle is curated.
How we chose
Desk research, not a sit test. We ranked on what each listing commits to in writing — stated weight rating, a named standard, warranty length — and price against those figures. "Ergonomic", unaccompanied, was treated as decoration. A chair whose listing states nothing can still be a fine chair; it just asks you to take furniture on faith, and this page does not.
The six picks
1. amseatec mesh chair — best value by the printed numbers
£75.99 on 16 Oct 2026 · BIFMA cited · 5-year warranty stated · £15.20 per stated year
The cheapest listing in the twenty that pairs a certification line with a five-year written commitment — a combination most chairs at twice the price don't offer.
The catch: no stated weight rating, which at this price is the one number we'd still like in writing.
2. SIHOO M18 — the chart staple
£139.99 on 16 Oct 2026 · 136kg stated · BIFMA cited · 3-year warranty · £46.66 per stated year
The long-running bestseller of the ergonomic mid-market, and one of only four listings in the twenty that states all three numbers this page ranks on.
The catch: three years is the short end of the warranties on this page, which its per-year price reflects.
3. ProtoArc EC200 — the one citing the actual office-chair standard
£142.49 on 16 Oct 2026 · EN 1335 cited · 5-year warranty · £28.50 per stated year
EN 1335 is the European standard written specifically for office chairs, and this is one of only two listings in our twenty to name it, alongside a five-year commitment.
The catch: no stated weight rating in the bullets we read.
4. SEATCO S1 — the highest stated weight rating
£149.99 on 16 Oct 2026 · 150kg stated — the highest in the twenty · BIFMA cited · 5-year warranty · £30.00 per stated year
The strongest stated-numbers package on the page: the top weight rating, a certification line and five years, all in writing.
The catch: a newer name than SIHOO or Ticova — the commitment is printed, the track record is shorter.
5. ELABEST X100 — the full-feature end
£237.99 on 16 Oct 2026 · 136kg stated · EN 1335 cited · 5-year warranty · footrest · £47.60 per stated year
The most expensive chair in the twenty is also one of the few that documents itself properly: standard, weight and warranty all stated, plus the recline-and-footrest feature set.
The catch: by price per stated year it is the dearest commitment on this page — you are paying for the features, not extra reassurance.
6. naspaluro — the budget seat that still shows its numbers
£65.99 on 16 Oct 2026 · 102kg stated · SGS line · "24-hour" claim
At the price where most of the twenty go silent, this one still prints a weight rating and a certification line.
The catch: 102kg is the lowest stated rating on the page, the 24-hour claim names no standard, and no warranty is stated — its numbers are better than its neighbours', not complete.

What a year of chair costs, by the makers' own warranties
| Chair | Price (16 Oct 2026) | Stated warranty | Price per stated year |
|---|---|---|---|
| amseatec mesh | £75.99 | 5 years | £15.20 |
| ProtoArc EC200 | £142.49 | 5 years | £28.50 |
| SEATCO S1 | £149.99 | 5 years | £30.00 |
| SIHOO M18 | £139.99 | 3 years | £46.66 |
| ELABEST X100 | £237.99 | 5 years | £47.60 |
| naspaluro | £65.99 | none stated | — |
As with every table like this we publish, the dash is a finding: a maker that states no warranty has priced its own confidence at zero. Warranty terms beyond the bullets — registration, exclusions, who pays return postage on a 20kg chair — were not read, and on furniture that last question is worth asking before you need the answer.
Who should skip a new office chair
- If your current chair is fine and your back isn't, the evidence-free upgrade path is the desk, not the seat: screen height and elbow angle are free to fix before £140 leaves your account.
- If you sit under two hours a day, the kitchen chair you own is the value pick in this market.
- If a "24-hour chair" claim is the draw: none of the twenty names the standard that phrase comes from. Treat it as upholstery copy.
The rest of the desk is already priced on this site: our laptop stands guide fixes the screen-height half of the posture question, and our portable monitors guide covers the second screen.
