On the prices two UK suppliers publish, leasing a commercial coffee machine costs as much as buying it after 3.3 years, in the middle case. Across 22 machines the crossover came between 2.4 and 3.8 years for all but one. Redber’s five-year leases on eight espresso machines add up to between 1.32 and 1.75 times the purchase price, plus an ownership fee at the end. Figures read on 18 September 2026.

The short answer
If you will keep the machine longer than about three years and can pay up front, buying costs less. A five-year lease on the published figures costs roughly half as much again as the machine. Leasing spreads the cost and often bundles servicing or supplies, which is what the extra pays for. Checked 18 September 2026.
How this index was made: desk research by Jacob Whitmore. We opened the websites of the six coffee machine suppliers that ranked in Google’s top five for “coffee machine lease or buy” and “commercial coffee machine lease” on 18 September 2026, and recorded every machine that showed both a purchase price and a weekly lease price. This page has no affiliate links and nobody paid to be included.
Most suppliers don’t publish a lease price
Of the six suppliers, two showed a purchase price and a weekly lease price side by side: Redber and Beanmachines. Coffee Seller’s lease page gave no machine prices, only “from £7/week” in its page description. Cotswold Coffee, Logic Vending and Rijo42 asked for a quote. Every supplier ranking for these searches sells or leases machines, so none of them is a neutral source on which option is better.
Espresso machines: Redber’s five-year leases
Redber’s product page for the Iberital IB7 Compact says its lease quotes are illustrative, calculated weekly over a five-year agreement, and that a transfer-of-ownership fee of about £200 plus VAT applies at the end. It also says three years of trading history or a homeowner guarantor is usually needed. We have assumed the same five-year term for the other seven machines, whose lease figures come from the same range page. Redber does not say whether its prices include VAT.

Where Redber lists a “from” price, we used the lowest purchase and lease figures shown. The ownership fee is not in the totals.
Office bean-to-cup machines: Beanmachines
Beanmachines shows a “lease from” price per week for each machine and a “from” purchase price on the product page, but does not state the lease term, so a five-year total can’t be worked out. What can be worked out is how long the weekly payments take to add up to the purchase price. Its lease packages include 8kg of coffee, a milk fridge, a water filter, cleaning products and a 12-month parts warranty, so the lease buys more than the bare machine.

The La Cimbali S60 is the outlier. Its weekly price covers the machine only after six and a half years, which suggests a longer lease term than the others, but Beanmachines doesn’t say.
What the lease adds to each cup
Spread over a five-day week, a Franke A300 lease at £29.98 adds 30p to each cup at 20 cups a day, 12p at 50 and 6p at 100. A Jura X6 at £13.12 adds 13.1p, 5.2p and 2.6p. Coffee and milk are on top of that, and so is servicing unless the lease includes it.
When leasing makes sense anyway
A lease spreads a £1,600 to £20,000 cost into weekly payments, and many include servicing, which a breakdown in a busy café can make worth paying for. It can also suit a business that expects to change machine within three years, before the crossover. Tax treatment differs between leasing and buying. What would change these figures
A quoted lease can differ from the published one. The rate depends on the finance company and on your trading history. Suppliers also change purchase prices and packages. We will re-read both suppliers’ prices in December 2026 and keep this version’s figures on the page with their date.
